What We Offer

As part of our offering of services to you, we at Semper West can help you with rubber roofs in their numerous aspects: installation, maintenance, and repair. Let our roofing consultants help you decide whether rubber roofs are best for your commercial business for free!

Rubber roofs, or to be more precise, ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM), is a type of roofing material made from slate dust, recycled rubber, and recycled tree fiber. Considered one of the most durable and cost-effective roofing solutions, EPDM rubber roofs are great for houses with flat roofs.

Rubber Roofing Rewards

There are many reasons for you to consider having rubber roofs over your home and commercial building.

Waterproof

Because it’s made from rubber, EPDM roofs are highly water-resistant. A properly installed rubber roof will only have a few seams between the sheets that make it up and will make it highly difficult for water to seem in under it and cause the underlying structure to rot.

Long Lasting

Properly installed and maintained rubber roofs have a long service life and can protect your home for up to 30 years. They are fire-resistant and can withstand strong winds. They are also impervious to ultraviolet rays and ozone corrosion.

Lightweight

Compared to other roofing materials such as wood and slate shingles, rubber roofs are lighter. This means it will be easier to transport and install, cutting down on your labor and installation expenses. Their weight also means that you won’t need to support it as much as you’ll have to with heavier roofs.

Stable

Because they are glued to your home, rubber roofs don’t rely on gravity to hold it in place. This makes them ideal for flat and low-sloped roofs. also, because of rubber’s flexibility, it won’t become dislocated or deformed as it won’t shrink in heat or contact in cold.

Energy Saving

Rubber roofs can help you cut down on your bills in two ways. During warm days, the roofs reflect heat away from your home, keeping it cool. In the same way, it also keeps the warmth in during cold weather.

Setting Up Your Rubber Roof

There are several steps in putting up a rubber roof on your home.

1. Cleaning & Clearing

Depending on whether you want to replace your old roof or built up on top of it, you’ll have to either strip your old roof off to its base or give it a thorough cleaning. If your roof is seriously damaged, we recommend that you take off your original roof; so that all damaged parts can be removed or fixed and so that the rubber membrane will be attached to a strong foundation. However, if your original roof is still in relatively good condition, we can simply clean it up with high-pressure water.

2. Laying Out

After your roof has been stripped down or cleaned, we’ll then proceed to put the rubber sheets in place. A good roofer will arrange the sheets in such a way they there will be as few gaps or seams possible between the 50 square feet sheets. The sheets will then be left alone for about half an hour to let it settle and have the creases fall flat on the surface. The key here is to make sure there are no pockets for water or air to hide in that may cause damage to your roof and home.

3. Trimming

After the sheets have settled, they will be cut into shape. You’ll need a professional for this job, to avoid either ending up short or having a loose-fitting roof. A professional will know how to trim the sheets so that they’ll fit your roof and have the proper tools to do it right.

4. Attatching

Once your rubber sheets have been settled and trimmed, your roofer will lift up the membrane and apply industrial-strength roofing adhesive under it so it will stick to your home. They will then repeat the process on the other side, and so on until all the sheets are securely attached to your roof. They’ll also install trims on the corners to further secure your rubber roof in place.
